The start of Wharton Road from the bottom of Winsford by the Red Lion. The wall was built to shore up the land on which a row of cottages stood. These were a continuation of Hill Street and were often referred to as Winsford Hill. The wall and the road were often repaired during the 19th century. At the top of the hill on the left the overhead gantry was the entrance to Over and Wharton railway station, whilst on the right the North Western public house may be seen in the haze,
