Co-ops can be large or small and take multiple forms based on ownership.
Winsford Industrial Co-operative Society began in 1860 at the “bottom of Winsford” and trade continued until it was taken over by Birkenhead Co-operative Society in 1969. By then the society had acquired 13 branches, a supermarket, a butchery, a dairy, a furniture store, clothing departments for men and women, a chemist, a bank, a slaughter house, a dairy and numerous travelling shops.
A tale of wonderous success in the early 1900s and dramatic decline with the advent of supermarkets in the 1960s.
The meeting will be preceded by the Annual General Meeting at 7pm
